Remarks: Info from https://www.mybis.gov.my Uvaria hirsuta is a forest woody climber and appears hairy in the entire plant part except the main stem. The species identification keys are its cut bole and twig with resinous piper scent. Its alternate, stalked leaves have leathery blades that are elliptic-oblong, dark green above, pale bluish-green below, and 1018 by 6.59 cm. Its leaf blade midrib has thin stiff hairs on both sides while its veins are distinct on both sides. The flowers from this species grow in either singly or pairs at the end axils of the plant, bearing dark red, elliptic petals and are 4.55 cm across. Its flowers are pollinated by insects. Its fruits are cylindrical, orange, hairy, and 23.5 cm long. Each fruit contains egg-shaped seeds lined in 2 rows. This species mainly grows in inland forests. Uvaria hirsuta can be propagated by seed. | |
