Stems dichotomously branched and short-jointed; joints flat, ovate to oblong, 3–6 × 1.5–2.5 cm, apex truncate, margin with 2–4 incurved teeth on each side, green on both surfaces. Flowers solitary, in various shades of red, borne on the apex of the joints; perianth-tube ca. 2.5 cm; limb 4–5 cm in diam.; segments 21–23, in 4–5 irregular tiers on the tube, basal ones ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 0.7–1.5 × 0.5–0.8 cm, distal ones oblong-lanceolate, 2.5–3.5 × 1–1.2 cm.
